About This Place

Noodle Nest 和悦, formerly known as Dun Huang, is a standout Chinese restaurant nestled in the vibrant culinary scene of Irvine, CA. Specializing in authentic, hand-pulled noodle dishes and classic regional flavors, this eatery masterfully blends rich traditions with a contemporary dining experience.

As you step inside Noodle Nest, the spacious and immaculately clean interior creates an inviting atmosphere ideally suited for family gatherings or casual meals. An open kitchen design lets you witness the mesmerizing craft of fresh noodle pulling — the rhythmic slap of dough against the counter serving as a tantalizing prelude to your meal. This sensory connection to the food’s creation enhances the anticipation and enjoyment.

The menu at Noodle Nest is a treasure trove for lovers of Chinese cuisine, especially those who appreciate depth and authenticity. Star dishes like the Lanzhou Beef Noodle Soup boast a clear yet richly flavored broth that’s both soothing and complex, perfectly complemented by springy, hand-pulled noodles. Adding a splash of chili oil elevates this classic into a fragrant, mildly fiery delight without overpowering the delicate balance—a fact that appeals to diners of all spice preferences, including children.

One cannot overlook the Chicken Gizzard Skewers or the Cumin Lamb Fried Rice with Egg, which deliver bold, aromatic layers that satisfy cravings for well-seasoned meats and hearty grains. The braised beef noodle soup half tendon half meat (红烧牛肉面 半筋半肉) offers a slow-cooked richness that melts in your mouth, contrasting beautifully with refreshing side dishes like the expertly sliced marinated cucumber salad (蓑衣黄瓜) and the zesty kelp salad (红油海带). Both serve as crisp, palate-cleansing counterpoints to the more intense entrees.

If you're dining with a group or seeking variety, the Combo Specials provide excellent value and authentic flavor combinations. Favorites include the Stir Fried Pork With Rice Combo (辣椒小炒肉套餐) and the Big Plate Chicken With Wide Noodles Combo (大盘鸡拌面套餐), each delivering generous portions and satisfying warmth. Signature dishes like the grilled fish (香辣烤鱼) also deserve special mention for their fragrant spices and tender textures that paint a vivid picture of Chinese regional cooking.

Customer experiences mirror this rich palette of flavors and heartfelt service. Hazel Venezia shared how the "fresh handpulled noodles were fantastic" and praised the juicy soupy dumplings and beef wrap as family favorites, highlighting the restaurant as a time-saving and cost-effective gem. Meanwhile, Rey Chou raves about the knife work in the marinated cucumber salad and the perfect balance in the Lanzhou Beef Noodles, calling it a “forever favorite” that’s both mild enough for kids and customizable with chili oil for adults seeking more heat.

Jimmy’s review brings to life the hearty, comforting nature of the noodle soups with his son, emphasizing the kid-friendly flavors and the delicious cold appetizers like garlicky bok choy. Luke Qian’s vivid description of the confident cooking and fragrant chili oil encapsulates the passion behind the kitchen’s craftsmanship. Even customers like Hieu Bui, who found the beef noodle soup a bit milder than expected, commend the clean, modern ambiance and friendly service, painting a balanced and honest picture of the dining experience.

In all, Noodle Nest 和悦 is more than just a place to eat—it’s a celebration of Chinese culinary artistry married with thoughtful hospitality. I first discovered NoodleNest Irvine through an Instagram post by sibling duo @Brooke.and.Ben, and it looked so good I had to give it a try. So glad I did—we had such a great family dinner here! The fresh hand-pulled noodles were fantastic, the juicy soupy dumplings hit the spot, and the beef wrap was my favorite of the night. Honestly, I love that we can save time and money by coming here instead of waiting at Din Tai Fung—without sacrificing taste. Another plus: it’s right in the same plaza as HMart, surrounded by amazing Asian bakeries and drink spots, so it’s super convenient. Definitely coming back soon!

My son and I came for lunch since I’m a fan of Chinese noodles. This store did not disappoint! My son got the beef noodle soup, which was hearty and wasn’t spicy (I think there’s an option to make it spicier, but my son can’t handle too much spicy foods). We also got the spicy beef and potato slice as a cold appetizer and garlicky bok choy; both of which were absolutely delicious! Even though the cold appetizer had chili oil, it provided just the right amount of kick without being too spicy. Personally, I got the intestine with wide/flat noodles, which tasted amazing! You can tell the broth sat marinating for a few hours, as the rich taste blended well with the firm noodles. Ambiance-wise, it does seem a bit threadbare, but I’m not too bothered by this. Also, don’t expect attentive service. While it is a sit-down restaurant, you order through a QR code on the table and you’ll have to ask the server(s) for water refills, as they don’t seem to do this automatically. These aren’t showstoppers, which is why I rate only four out of five stars for service and atmosphere. Also, note that the prices are a tad high, but the portions are generous! It’s definitely meant for family style sharing or if you are a single eater with a crazy appetite. In a place with lots of great Asian places to eat, Noodle Nest does its best to stand out.

Signature Lanzhou Beef Noodles My forever favorite! The broth is clear but full of flavor, and a little chili oil takes it to the next level. The noodles are perfectly springy and chewy. Without chili oil, it’s mild enough that even my kid can enjoy it! Marinated Cucumber Salad Every time I have this, I’m impressed by the knife work! Crisp, refreshing, and lightly spicy — a great palate cleanser. Pork Pita Burger (Rou Jia Mo) A crispy outer bun stuffed with juicy, savory braised pork. The flavor is rich but well-balanced — perfect fat-to-lean ratio! Big Plate Chicken All chicken thigh meat (so it’s tender, not dry), with a super aromatic spice blend — flavorful without being overpowering. The wide noodles that come with it are ultra bouncy and soak up the sauce like a dream. Chicken Soup Wontons It was actually my first time having wontons at a Northwestern-style restaurant — and I’m telling you, don’t skip this one! The broth is rich chicken soup, and the wontons are filled with pork, shrimp, and fish roe. The skins are thin, and each bite has a little burst of flavor! Grilled Chicken Cartilage Skewers & Large Lamb Skewers I love that they also serve skewers here! They’re perfectly seasoned, generously portioned, and grilled just right — very satisfying. Mini Fried Pork Buns These are bite-sized and just right! Crispy bottoms, juicy filling, and the dough has a nice, satisfying chew. A great little extra if you’re not totally full from everything else!

The restaurant is clean, spacious, and thoughtfully organized, with an open kitchen that invites diners to watch the rhythmic pull and slap of fresh noodles. We ordered the lamb skewers, chili-oil noodles, and a fermented rice soup with egg and milk. Overall, the cooking was confident and satisfying—the chili oil lent a fragrant heat that lingered pleasantly. If there was one small letdown, it was the bok choy, served a touch too cool, likely because it had been pre-blanched in advance. The lamb skewers, while tender, lacked the smoky edge you’d expect from a charcoal grill. Still, service was brisk and attentive, and the meal came together with an easy sense of order. It’s the kind of place that rewards a quick but comforting lunch, and one you’ll likely find yourself returning to.

Noodle is decent here. The soup is a bit plain, not as flavorful as I expect a braised beef noodle would be. Its not bad, just not what I expected. I ate here when the restaurant was Chef Hung and I prefer its flavor. Service: friendly and nice staff. Nothing outstanding. They provide all the basic needs. Ambiance: clean and modern. Spacious.

This is a popular Chinese restaurant in a very popular plaza in Irvine. We came here for lunch and there were just a short wait time. The atmosphere is very welcoming and bright. The food is decent and generous portions. This is an handicap friendly facility. Extremely limited parking in the front but the parking structure is a way better option.

I was looking for true hand-made noodles and finally found it! You can order using iPad provided by the restaurant or your phone which is total in sync with each other. Reasonable price and great taste. Good service and quick serving. Highly recommended and will come back again.
